Making Interpretive Decisions For Your Solo Repertoire
Saturday, April 4, 2026
10:30 AM PT / 12:30 PM CT / 1:30 PM ET
Approx. 75 - 90 min
Session Leader: JoAnna Cochenet
This event is open and encouraged for all musicians, but will have a string-repertoire focus using examples from instrumental solo repertoire (which may include works with and without accompaniment) at different levels from late beginner to advanced-intermediate. Most information applied will be cross-transferable to most instrumental musicians, and/or will be translated or adapted to other instruments or voice when appropriate. It is also cross-transferable to chamber and collaborative works and other ensemble pieces, so even if you’re not a solo player, you will still gain much from this session!
This session will be highly useful for those musicians looking to better understand and interpret their music into more musical performances and effects, or looking to find other ways to teach and transmit this information to others (students, audiences, presentations, composers, etc).
Repertoire will be shared on the screen, along with some how-to(s) of analyzation and mini-demonstrations and/or audio samples. There is no need to come with any materials unless you wish to take notes.
We will discuss things like phrasing; patterns; pacing; dynamics; historical, philosophical, and envisioning concepts and practices; and more as it applies to the works.
There may be time for a short Q & A at the end or for questions throughout.
THIS SESSION IS LIVE AND WILL NOT BE RECORDED.
DEADLINE to Register: Thursday, April 2nd (end of day)
Zoom link will be emailed prior to the session.
