An energetic, groovy work that grabs attention from beginning to the end, this work was in part inspired by the Japanese student break-dance group and their dance music, at Coe College, the “Hi-cockers” (named after Hickock Hall), who frequently performed around the campus and at the annual Coe College International Cultural Show. Using typical classical string forces, it’s part rock, hip-hop, and break-dance music.
Originally composed for the Coe College *Alma A. Turechek String Quartet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa 2005 (under the name B minor String Quartet (Interlude) and performed in public reading sessions at Coe College (quartet) and later (c. 2010) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (string orchestra), it won the title of Honorable Mention in the 2007 Iowa Student Composers Forum - College Division. A string orchestra adaptation was made with the title Stomp for Buffett Middle School Fusion String Ensemble under the direction of Tom Miller, 2013, marking its official premier.
Both versions will be available when ready for official publication.
